LUKEWARMNESS...
Is never so much what you are doing but what your are not doing that lands you in this lamentable and damnable condition before God.
(Remember: each of the seven churches were told, "I know your works." )
Faith without works is dead. Lukewarmness is a faith that doesn't or isn't working. Lukewarmness is lovelessness. Faith worketh by love.
I am noticing a declension in myself, a cooling off from prayer, hot, unbridled prayer. There is in me a sliding back from feasting on and reveling in God's bread. Instead of resorting to God for times of rest and love, I am retreating into the bed-sheets. It is not that I have ceased from daily prayer or eating of God's Word - it is simply that I feel the heat and desire in doing these things waning. Mercy, Lord!
My friends, I call these things gaps in abiding. What is Christ Jesus to a branch but never-ending sap to ever-withering branches? I need Jesus!
I fear these gaps and I hate lukewarmness. Pray for me, those who love the Lord - pray for me.
