Friend Have you entered His rest?
The reason most of Israel was destroyed in the wilderness was because they did not know their God. It comes down to that one fact: They did not KNOW GOD. "And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee..." In this sad, heart-enclosed-in-fat, calloused ear condition, they found it rather easy to grumble, complain, rise up against God's true servants, and make a golden calf.
I have heard in my lifetime folks say, "well, if I lived back then and saw all the mighty works God did for them, i would believe," or, "I wouldn't be like them."
Listen friends, God delivered Israel with a mighty deliverance by dividing the waters of the Red Sea and destroying the galloping Egyptians in the waters. God gave them 'the blood' by which the destroyer 'passed over' and did not slay their firstborn. They "saw My work" says God and yet "tempted Me and proved Me." What horrific ignorance!
And yet, you are doing it all over again today just like Israel did to God then. You know of 'the blood' by which sin is not only atoned for but taken away and yet you continue in SIN. You know of the great dividing asunder of body and soul, joints and marrow, of the Word of God on the Cross of Christ and yet your fat remains. You tabernacle worshippers - Bible Belt believers - you see and hear of that ultimate sacrifice weekly yet make mad rushes upon worldly treasures, making mini golden calves in your heart. Why do you not store up for yourself treasure that cannot be touched by rust and moths? Why? because you do not Know God. That is the only sane reason.
If you have read this far, please Take Heed. "Today, if ye WILL hear His voice, harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness."
Today is the day of salvation. Don't look back to the Red Sea and say within yourselves, "we have Abraham for our father." No, TODAY is the day you are to make proof of your faith by good works and a good testimony for Christ. Otherwise, you do not Know God and will hear those fateful words, "unto whom I sware in My wrath that they should not enter into my rest."
(Most quotes above taken from Psalm 95)
